Stephen T. Mahan

Having spent several years working for automotive and automotive supply companies as a development engineer for various vehicle and mobility systems, Steve understands the benefit that a strong intellectual property portfolio can bring to both companies and individual inventors by protecting their most valuable assets. Steve’s product marketing background also gives him unique insight into the ways intellectual property law can enhance promotional and brand management functions for a product or business.

Steve’s familiarity with his Quinn IP Law clients’ core technologies makes him a strong ally in planning business strategies that leverage technical strengths to increase revenue and improve market position. Whether he’s working directly with fellow engineers to understand the most minute details of a new concept, or engaging with his colleagues to determine the best legal path for a particular company, Steve is in his element while helping others achieve success.

A good IP strategy requires good IP. I reduce an inventor’s concepts to its first principles under the laws of physics by asking “why?” I then reason up to a description of what can become patentable subject matter by asking “how?” The reward comes in seeing clients benefit from their efforts by securing patents that they can employ in growing their businesses.
