Jean M. McCarthy
Jean McCarthy is a shareholder at Quinn IP Law who is committed to developing innovative and cost-effective legal solutions that advance her clients’ business goals. Jean’s diverse legal experience, and her substantial background in mechanical engineering, make her a valuable resource and ally for clients.
Also serving as Chief Diversity Officer at Quinn IP Law, Jean has been honored as an IAM World’s Leading Patent Professional multiple times, and as a Women in the Law Honoree by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
At Quinn, she provides a wide range of intellectual property solutions, including preparing and prosecuting domestic and international utility and design patent applications, assessing patentability, infringement, and validity, analyzing and optimizing portfolios and providing design around consultation. Her technical areas of focus include mechanical and electro-mechanical control systems, artificial intelligence, materials science, medical devices, consumer products, and automotive technology.
Jean also serves as Chief Diversity Officer at Quinn IP Law and is committed to advancing the firm’s diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Jean has served as an engineer at the Environmental Protection Agency, which enabled her to apply her technical skills to a range of regulatory initiatives. Jean also gained engineering experience with a large automotive manufacturer. Prior to her role at Quinn IP Law, Jean worked as an attorney for a boutique banking and financial services law firm, where she gained regulatory and business law experience.
Jean holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with honors, and a Juris Doctor with honors, both from the University of Michigan. She is a member of the State Bar of Michigan – Intellectual Property Law Section, and is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
