David S. Nay
David is a Patent Attorney and Shareholder at Quinn IP Law, where he combines his lifelong interest in technology with his legal expertise to help clients achieve a competitive market advantage. He is passionate about transforming his clients’ creative energy into both a competitive market advantage and a solid intellectual property portfolio, whether he’s representing ambitious start-ups or established global organizations.
David’s background in electromechanical design gives him invaluable insight into a wide range of industries and technical disciplines. He has also worked in all areas of intellectual property law and provides comprehensive counsel to a diverse group of clients.
He is energized by his clients’ passion for innovation and enjoys helping them leverage their creative genius into actionable intellectual property strategies. The core of his practice at Quinn is patent portfolio management, including patent preparation and prosecution, advanced design counseling, and risk management and mitigation. David represents a client base ranging from local medical device startups to global sporting goods manufacturers. He believes in collaborating directly with clients and gaining in-depth exposure to their products in order to produce a comprehensive and tailored portfolio.
Prior to joining Quinn Law Group, David worked at a large national firm, where he prepared and prosecuted patent applications for various mechanical and electromechanical technologies, including automotive powertrains and seating, robotics, hybrid engines, and medical devices. He has counseled clients on due diligence, freedom to operate, invalidity, and non-infringement matters, and represented both plaintiffs and defendants in patent infringement litigation. David received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor and graduated magna cum laude from the Michigan State University College of Law with a concentration in Intellectual Property law. He also served as a Managing Editor of the Michigan State Law review. David is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
