Colleen Shovlin

Colleen enjoys counseling clients during the strategic development of their patent and trademark portfolios and takes satisfaction in collaborating with innovators to obtain broad patent, trademark, and copyright protection for their inventions, brands, and artistic works.

Her practice also involves rendering patentability, registrability, and infringement opinions, support during the transfer and enforcement of intellectual property rights, and performing intellectual property portfolio due diligence. She has successfully represented clients before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and has assisted in protecting her client’s rights against the acts of counterfeiters and infringers.

Colleen has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting domestic and foreign patents related to the chemical and mechanical arts and material sciences, with specific expertise in the fields of ferrous and non-ferrous metal alloy compositions and manufacturing processes. This expertise includes glass and ceramic chemistry and manufacturing; lithium ion batteries; thermoset and thermoplastic composites; exhaust gas treatment systems; fuel cells; pipe and tube connectors and fittings; volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions mitigation; tribological and optical coatings and thin films; and automotive component parts, including piston rings, cylinder liners, suspensions, electrode materials, and vehicle interiors.
